Change of mobile number

Andy always-on-the-move Hines has changed his mobile telephone number (Andy, do you want me to publish your mobile number to the world ?).

Let’s talk hockey

Many of you will have heard the name Jane Sixsmith – the ginger-haired one in the England/Great Britain team !   As the only British woman to play in all 4 Olympics, and having notched up 98 international goals so far, she was awarded the MBE in the New Year Honours List.  Great performance.

Following an injury to Leslie Hughes, the Gloucestershire Umpiring Association is investigating personal injury insurance for umpires.

Stroud 1st X1 Men in action – the darlin' possums !
Is Rob really waiting for the number 51 bus ?

Player types !

The top goal scorer of all time in the English ladies' leagues is Tina Cullen who has some views on how positions fit personalities !

Keeper   - essential to be completely crazy.
Sweeper  - the ‘poser’ of the team – doesn’t have to play at all, just talk a good match.
Centre back  - key role to flatten everyone.
Right half  - the most skilful defender (well they think they are).
Left half  - completely masochistic (who wants to mark the fastest person on the pitch ?!)
Midfield thug - must shout at everyone, including the umpire.
Headless chicken - pass to anyone and everyone  regardless of what team they’re in.
Playmaker - why play a simple ball when a glory ball is possible ?
Right wing - always the fastest player on the pitch - must run off the back line !
Centre forward - always scores the most goals, mainly because they never run, never tackle, never pass and always shoot.
Left wing - should be as fast as the right wing, but always has a problem ‘getting their feet round’ !

Stroud in English Hockey magazine

Remember the ‘Rolo’ ad ?  Well, the English Hockey Association have given it half a page in their seasonal magazine ‘Backboard’ – free of charge, too !

Pay as you go !

Please pay your match fees on a weekly basis as it makes life easier for the captains and treasurer, preventing them tearing out their hair, losing it or going grey !

EASTER TOURS

A Ladies' tour meeting will take place at The Stratford on Friday 3 March at 8 p.m.

The men have decided (?!) to go to Weymouth – contact Graham for more information.

Thanks to the 12 slinky, sexy beauties, the calendar has been a huge success – coverage on GMTV, Radio Gloucestershire, The Falcon, HTV, a mention in The Times, The Citizen, The Cheltenham Echo, The Stroud News & Journal, Hockey Sport, The Hockey Backboard etc. etc..

There was also coverage on last week’s So Graham Norton show on Channel 4;  he was so amazed/startled/impressed he sent a £50 donation ! Anybody wishing to know if Betty's Tongue was also sent, please check with Vicky because the cheque went to her.

Special thanks to the following people who all sold more than 20 copies:
Vicky Webb,     Andy Hines,  Pauline Edgington, Karen Cullinane,   Julie Slater and   Pippa Williams

If you still have calendar money, please pass it to Pauline Edgington or your team captain so that Pauline can work out exactly how much was raised and pass on a cheque for the appropriate amount to the Cotswold Hospice.

Fun quiz

Thanks to Nigel for organising the ‘fun quiz’ and congratulations to the many teams that won prizes:  shame the newsletter wasn’t out sooner – JANE Sixsmith and TINA Cullen are both mentioned here !

Fabulous new tracksuits

The men are looking so super-cool in their new kit they are making the ladies' hearts flutter – well, nearly !

The new fashion statement – multi coloured blankets !

In clearing out their attics, Jane & Flossie found enough spare blankets to open a hotel, but they arranged a Mexican evening instead – photographic evidence is NOW available ...
