This was a disappointing result for Stroud and
a performance riddled with missed opportunities. The hosts were made
to pay for their failure to score, conceding a goal from a Ross counter-attack
midway through the first half. For a prolonged period Stroud fought
hard for an equaliser but the ball did not fall in their favour.
Joe Niblett and Matt Waite provided some useful
passing to the wide positions and their efforts were followed up by good
work on the left flank by James Hanson and Ben Garnett, as well as on the
right by James Sharp and Nick Hitchcroft. Stuart Allen also created
good chances and came close to scoring several times.
Although Stroud had many excellent chances to
score, they failed to do so and at full time the two teams were divided
by the Ross first-half goal.
The game itself was rather scrappy and an unfortunate
accident left Tim Byford with a bloody nose which forced him to retire
midway through the second half. For Stroud, arguably the better side,
this was a result which could quite easily, and perhaps should, have gone
the other way.
