Disappointing Defeat  Yate & South Glos. 3 : 1 Stroud 1st XI

Match Played on 30 October 1999
Stroud News and Journal, 3 November 1999

Stroud started this game brightly enough, but it has to be said, squandered several early chacnes in the form of a penalty flick and a handful of short corners.
Yate are a strong and combative team who play to a well-controlled format.  They took the lead in the first half with a rather lucky goal - but a goal nonetheless !  Stroud fought back and Abbi Powell fired in a scorching shot into the corner of the net to equalise.
Despite a fervent half-time talking-to by captain Karen Cullinane, Stroud conceded a second goal shortly after the break.
The playing conditions were causing both teams difficulty with the ball jumping and bobbling all over the pitch.  The home side were clearly more comfortable with this than Stroud and took advantage of this to score a well-taken third goal to seal Stroud's fate.
This was a disappointing result for Stroud but the team played hard to the final whistle and never gave up.

Woman of the Match : Caren Spindler (centre half)
