Another Victory !  Stroud 1st XI 1 : 0 Lansdown

Ladies 1st XI Match Played on 29 January 2000

Stroud took Lansdown to the edge this week with a surprise victory over one of the top Cheltenham teams.

The home side struggled to find their feet but went ahead ten minutes into the game with a goal from Abbi Powell. This clearly shocked the Lansdown side who, both physically and mentally strong, had the most possession.

Ths Stroud defence were this week's heroines - Jane Beckerlegg was fast to respond to penalty corners, Karen Porter worked relentlessly and Viv Mann tackled in text book fashion to deny Lansdown a goal.

Stroud's communication and control was better in the second half but Lansdown continued to pile on the pressure. Sophie Whittaker made some fine runs in the midfield and Vicky Cole helped build some good attacking moves for the Stroud forwards. Lansdown became more and more frustrated and were unlucky not to score but Stroud 'keeper Vicky Webb managed to keep the ball out of the net and a certain goal was avoided by a fantastic Viv Mann tackle.

This was Stroud's last mid-season friendly game - now it's back to the serious League games, next week away to BAC !
