3 Points but only 1 Goal Westberries  0 : 1 Stroud Ladies' 1st XI

Ladies 1st XI Match Played on 26 February 2000

It is a well-known fact that Stroud Ladies' 1st XI can raise their game to beat opposition who are a challenge. Unfortunately, by the same token, they acan lower their game to the standard of the oppsing team, too. This was the case last Saturday - not to take anything away from Westberries who are a strong team - Stroud really should have won this match much more convincingly and managed to put on their worst performance of the season so far.

Stroud were always on the attack but were thwarted time after time by a very impressive Westberries' keeper. Westberries also had their chances but were kept at bay, only just, by Stroud's defence.

The Stroud team was barely recognisable from last week's side, mainly due to injuries but the mainstays of the team were still there trying desparately to score. The only goal of the match came from a fine shot by Pauline Edgington, but Stroud had left it until the last 10 minutes. Westberries put on the pressure in the remaining few minutes in an attempt to level the score but it was not to be and Stroud took maximum points, albeit rather luckily.

Woman of the Match : Pauline Edgington
