Hardest Match brings Rewards  Bretforton 0 : 2 Stroud 1st XI

Match Played on 23 October 1999
Stroud News and Journal, 27 October 1999

In this early morning away game Stroud's defence had a rude awakening !  The Bretforton forwards were attacking in packs and at times it seemed as though they had 16 players on the pitch !
Such is the fortitude, commitment and ability of the Stroud defenders, Viv Mann, Karen Porter and goalkeeper Vicky Webb, however, that Bretforton's attempts on goal were thwarted time after time.
Stroud socred a goal during the first half when a fine solo run by Sophie Whittaker was neatly netted by Abbi Powell.  Stroud midfield players Karen Cullinane and Jane Beckerleg were impressive in their command of the centre ground.  Stroud were pleased with their performance at the half-way stage.
The second half belonged to Stroud.  The team had most of the possession and Sarah Cook put away a second goal.  Bretforton fought back hard in the dying moments of the game but Stroud kept a clean slate for the third week in succession, denying the home team even a consolation goal.
This was the hardest match of the season so far and, as Stroud's next two League games are against the top teams, this game was very useful practice.
