Clash of the Titans !  Stroud 1st XI 1: 1 Yate & South Glos

Ladies 1st XI Match Played on 19 February 2000

Stroud were well-up for this weekend's top-of-the-table clash with leaders Yate. Having beaten Thornbury 7:1 last weekend, the home side were in a confident mood - but the nerves were still jangling at the end of the game.

Yate started strongly and attacked from the whistle but it was Stroud who were the first to score when Sarah Cook, last week's hat-trick hero, scored from a well-worked penalty corner routine.

Not to be deterred, Yate also won several penalty corners, the final one, on the stroke of half-time, resulting in the equaliser.

Although disappointed to concede a goal, Stroud by no means gave up. Both teams had their chances but even with two such closely-matched sides, the home team really should have taken the opportunity of scoring more goals to ensure victory.

Disheartened they may have been, but Stroud, spurred on by their captain Karen Cullinane, are still one of the best teams in the League and, when playing with this sort of team spirit and determination, proved today that they are certainly no push-over.
