Stroud ladies made a storming return to their League fixtures this weekend, playing Bristol's BAC.
Sophie Whittaker scored a stunning solo goal to put Stroud ahead early in the first half. Although their verbal communication was poor this weekend, Stroud played dramatically superior hockey. The passing throughout the midfield was exceptional and, at times, the BAC team were left totally bemused.
Karen Whitehead was in exactly the right place to slot home a fine near-post goal before BAC replied with a brilliantly struck shot but Sophie Whittaker was on target again shortly before half-time.
Stroud, having squandered several penalty corner opportunities, went further ahead when Karen Whitehead scored again from a set-piece. Not to be outdone, Abbi Powell scored a great goal and Sophie Whittaker managed another to complete a well-deserved hat-trick.
Although BAC managed some pressure in the second half, the match belonged to Stroud - without mentioning the entire team it is impossible to describe the spirit and commitment with which the team played this week - a real pleasure to behold !
